'Tern Tales

Hey guys!

My name is Weston Putman, and I’m the newest intern at 10 Barrel! I’m from Eastern Oregon, and currently go to school at Oregon State, studying marketing. I have always been interested in this industry and figured I’d reach out to someone I met while hunting, so who better than one of the first employees at 10 Barrel? Jake Jaca. I wasn’t really expecting anything to come from it, but to my surprise I received an email that read “Hey Weston, I sent this email to our marketing director”. From there, one thing led to another and by mid-March I was scrambling to find somewhere to live for the summer.

Walking through the doors on the first day, I didn’t really know what to expect. Just based on socials and their website, I knew a little bit about their culture and the lifestyle behind ‘Drink Beer Outside’. But as soon as I walked in, I knew this place was different. It didn’t take long for my nerves to go away when I met some of the employees at 10 Barrel. These people are a different type of human, if they even are human. They are going nonstop, constantly looking for the next big/creative idea. To be honest, it’s difficult to keep up with the energy in this place, it’s enough to power a country for years. I’ve been here for two days, and can already tell that this is going to be one of the best summers I’ve had. From the constant laughs, to the ideas and mentoring I’ve experienced already, 10 Barrel is hands down the greatest place to work. Some of the main things I’ve learned so far are:

1.)  Work Hard, Play Harder – Not only does 10 Barrel embody this saying, they have turned it into a lifestyle. Get your work done, and do it well. Then make some time for the fun stuff, the work/life balance at 10 Barrel is real, and it’s freaking awesome.

2.) Communicate – Like I stated earlier, these people are constantly going and looking for the next big idea. There are some of the smartest people I’ve met sitting here in this office, and I’ve had the privilege in talking with all of them. Everyone had a tip or a piece of advice for me, and that has been super beneficial in this new position.

3.) Don’t – If your laptop charger breaks on you, do not go to Best Buy and try to buy another one. Why? You’ll miss the chance to participate in a fun game with your new coworkers. I’m not talking about a board game, or some horseshoes. No, I’m talking a full on game of Thunderstruck… In the office… Before noon. Yeah, I’ll wait while you try to think of a better place to work.

I’m looking forward to the summer and keeping you guys up to date on the journey and everything that happens here at the office.

Cheers,

Wes
